World's Most Expensive Book 'BIRDS OF AMERICA' Sells For $10 Million

John James Audubon's "Birds of America" billed as the world’s most expensive book. This book was sold on Tuesday at Sotheby's London for $10 million and set a new world record for any printed book ever sold at auction.


"Birds of America" is oversize because it is more than 3 feet tall and 2 feet wide, with 435 illustrations. In 1827 this book was first published.

Only 119 complete copies of This book are known to exist. From this 119 complete copies, 108 are owned by museums and libraries.

Michael Tollemache who bought the copy at the Sotheby’s auction said that the book was “priceless”.

A decade ago a separate edition of the book on ornithology sold for $8.8m.
